Compost Toilets
We love our compost loos!
They are an ecological way to dispose of human waste without the need for loads of water, and the composted waste (or 'humanure') can be used around our new trees and shrubs and on flower beds. Don't worry - it's completely hygienic! The compost takes around 12 months to rot down and during this time all nasty pathogens are eliminated.
PLEASE NOTE for a compost loo to work properly it is essential that the urine and poo are separated (it is actually the urine in sewage which makes it smell). This happens automatically when you sit on the loo by means of the separator (that white thing). So.....
PLEASE SIT DOWN! (Everyone!)
When you're done, just add a handful or two of the sawdust provided and give the bowl a little squirt from the bottle next to the loo (it's water and vinegar). Please only put toilet paper in the loo; all other rubbish goes in the bin provided. And if you have questions, please ask!
