In an effort to keep the use of fossil fuels on our campsite to a minimum we decided to design and build two showers heated by the sun. The thermal solar panels on the roof of the shower block heat the water which is stored in the shed next to the showers. If it's not quite sunny enough, we have electric back up from our photovoltaic (PV) array on the roof of one of our barns.
Please be mindful of other campers and use the hot water sparingly as once the tank is drained it can take some time to get back up to temperature. All our water comes from a huge aquifer 140m below us (that's below sea level!) and is pumped up through a borehole. It is then filtered to make sure it is safe to use and regularly tested.
